Police have identified a man who was found dead on a Palm Springs trail on Sunday. Steven West, a 55-year-old Palm Springs resident, went missing on August 9th. His body was discovered on the Goat Trail off Palm Hills Drive. Police responded to the scene at 7:30 a.m. Sunday when a hiker stumbled upon the body.
West’s Ford Fusion was parked at the bottom of the trail, and his body was discovered 1.6 miles up the trail. Although West was pronounced dead on 7:58 a.m. Sunday, it is still unclear how long he was there and when he passed away.
No foul play is suspected in West’s death, and his niece says the trip up the Palm Springs trail would not have been out of the ordinary for West. The investigation is ongoing.
“This is a tragic loss for the victim’s family and friends. With temperatures well above 100 degrees, it’s crucial for hikers to let someone know about their whereabouts at all times,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
