Reported Shooting at LAX Was a False Alarm

Four terminals were evacuated at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Sunday for a reported shooting. Police received multiple 911 calls reporting that shots had been fired. Terminals 4,5,7 and 8 were evacuated around 8:50 p.m.

Police issued the all-clear by 9:50 after the incident was determined to be a false alarm. According to LAX officials, no one was injured and there was no evidence any shots had been fired. However, the evacuation slowed down airport operations and everyone who was evacuated had to be re-screened by security before they could reenter.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the emergency calls were in response to loud noises, not gunshots. It is still not clear where the loud noises came from.

In December, Los Angeles experienced another threat, that time within their school district. More than 1,000 public schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District were shut down after the district received an email threatening an attack on the schools with bombs and assault rifles. Federal officials later determined the threat was likely a hoax. The New York Education Department received almost the exact same threat the same day. However, New York officials determined the threat was not credible early on and did not cancel classes.

“It’s always important to take every threat seriously. Thankfully, airport staff and police were quick to assess and diffuse the situation,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
