Samsung Discontinues Galaxy Note 7 for Safety Reasons

Samsung will discontinue the Galaxy Note 7, following reports that the smartphones are still overheating. Even after the supposed safety upgrades, consumers continue to report that the devices are overheating and catching fire.

Samsung has received 96 reports of Note 7 devices overheating, and 23 of those reports were received after the September 15th recall. Thirteen people have also reported being burned by the devices.

The Transportation Department announced Friday that Galaxy Note 7 smartphones are now banned from US flights because they pose a fire hazard.

Customers who still have the devices should contact Samsung for a refund. The company is offering customers a $100 bill credit for exchanging their device for another Samsung phone. Those who opt for a refund or a smartphone from a different brand will receive a $25 bill credit. Samsung reports the recall will cost the company upwards of $5.3 billion.

“These devices pose a serious safety risk to users. If you still have your Galaxy Note 7, please stop using it and contact Samsung as soon as possible for a refund,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
