Vaping Illness Cases Continue to Spread
Vaping Illness Cases Continue to Spread

New information recently released by the CDC has significantly expanded the scope and seriousness of vaping-related medical problems across the country. According to the newest trove of data collected by researchers, vaping-related lung disease has now been detected in 2,051 individuals, including 39 who have succumbed to the illness.

While vaping has been identified as the common means of transmission in these cases, the specific cause or origin of the disease remains somewhat vague. For now, scientists at the CDC are honing in on vaping products which have been known to carry THC, the active ingredient in marijuana known to make people feel “high”.

Congress Steps In to Take Action

In response to this growing crisis, Congress has asked CDC Principal Deputy Director Anne Schuchat and FDA Center for Tobacco Products director Mitch Zeller to testify on their findings.

While it is certainly too early to state definitively that all vaping can increase the risk of lung-related illnesses, individuals who are considering recreational vaping should take a critical look at current evidence and information in order to determine whether or not they are putting their own health on the line.

According to an official statement from the CDC, individuals should avoid using any vaping products that contain THC, or modify their e-cigarettes in any way that is not intended by the original manufacturer.
