Victorville Street Racing Crash Injures 3

Street racing is likely to blame for a crash that injured three people in Victorville Thursday. The crash occurred around 8 a.m. on Hesperia Road near Center Street.

Witnesses say a black Scion and a silver Honda sedan were racing in the northbound lanes prior to the crash. The Scion allegedly passed the sedan and sideswiped a van traveling south in the No. 1 lane.

The female driver of the van and two children in her vehicle all suffered minor injuries in the crash. The were transported to Victor Valley Global Medical Center.

Police arrested the Scion driver on suspicion of driving under the influence. Police are still searching for the driver of the silver Honda, who fled the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

California Lawmakers Fight Against Street Racing

Unfortunately, illegal street racing continues to be a popular activity in southern California. Despite the deadly consequences, popular culture and social media perpetuate the notion that street racing is an acceptable form of recreation.

But California lawmakers are taking a stand against this dangerous hobby. This week, Los Angeles City Council approved a pilot program that will install “rumble strips” on a popular racing street in the San Fernando Valley. The strips will be installed on Plummer Avenue, known as the “Canoga Speedway” to street racers. Rumble strips are similar to speed bumps, but they are geared especially toward slowing down vehicles that are racing at high speeds.

“We’re glad to hear Los Angeles is taking steps toward eliminating street racing. This is a serious problem throughout southern California that our local lawmakers need to address as well,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
