Woman Suffers Fatal Injuries in Apple Valley Crash

A woman sustained fatal injuries after she was struck on a roadway in Apple Valley Sunday night. Police say 18-year-old Emily Sanchez was attempting to help a cat on the road when she was struck by a Nissan Altima. The crash occurred in the 13000 block of Kiowa Road, near Rancherias Road, at 10:45 p.m.

Sanchez was apparently traveling in the passenger seat of her mother’s vehicle when they hit a cat in the roadway. Sanchez got out of the vehicle to remove the cat from the roadway. The southbound Nissan then struck Sanchez as she was kneeling beside the cat.

Authorities transported the victim to a trauma center for treatment. However, Sanchez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at 2:45 a.m. Monday.

The Nissan driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. The Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) continues to investigate the incident.

“Our hearts go out to the young woman’s loved ones during this difficult time. We don’t know all the details, but the reality is it is always risky to exit your vehicle in the roadway. This is true even in a residential area,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
