Cancer Patient Wins $70 Million Talcum Powder Lawsuit

A cancer patient was awarded $70 million in a talcum powder lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson. Deborah Giannecchini of Modesto, California sued the company, claiming her use of talcum powder for 45 years caused her to develop ovarian cancer.

This lawsuit is one of nearly 2,000 suits against Johnson & Johnson regarding their talcum baby powder. Earlier this year the company lost both a $72M lawsuit and a $55M lawsuit to plaintiffs who claimed their cancer was caused by talcum powder use.

Johnson & Johnson has said they plan to appeal the verdict because the science proves that talcum powder is safe. However, the International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies talcum powder as a possible carcinogen. The number of cancer patients coming forward with talcum powder lawsuits suggests that more research needs to be done on the safety of the product.

“Johnson & Johnson continues to deny the link between talcum powder and ovarian cancer, despite losing millions of dollars in lawsuits. What will it take for them to admit that their product might not be as safe as they claim?” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
