Would Crosswalk Prevent Crashes at Deadly Intersection?

Palm Springs residents are calling for a crosswalk at a deadly intersection. The intersection of Vista Chino and Via Miraleste was the site of a fatal pedestrian crash Thursday afternoon.

The speed limit in the area is 45 MPH, but residents say speeding is common. Residents say the high speeds of vehicles and lack of a crosswalk make it a dangerous place to cross. The pedestrian who was killed Thursday was in the intersection when he was hit by a vehicle. He died at the scene.

A crosswalk would indicate where pedestrians should be crossing. However, if vehicles are speeding in the area, a crosswalk is unlikely to address that problem.

“While a crosswalk might make drivers more conscious of pedestrians, it won’t take care of the problem of speeding vehicles. Vehicles speeding in residential areas is the larger issue,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
