Daughter of Aaron Hernandez Sues NFL After CTE Diagnosis

A $20 million lawsuit against the NFL and the New England Patriots has been filed in on behalf of the daughter of former Patriots star Aaron Hernandez. Hernandez’s fiancee Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez filed the lawsuit last month on behalf of their daughter Avielle. The suit was filed after researchers discovered that Aaron Hernandez was suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).

Aaron Hernandez was serving a life sentence without parole for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. In April, the 27-year-old hanged himself in his jail cell. His suicide occurred just hours before the Patriots visited the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl win.

Aaron Hernandez had Severe CTE and Early Brain Atrophy

After his death, Hernandez’s brain was examined at the CTE Center at Boston University. Researchers concluded that Hernandez had stage 3 of 4 of the disease. He also had early brain atrophy. According to Joe Baez, the family’s attorney, Hernandez’s was the most severe case of CTE researchers had ever seen for someone his age.

“CTE is a terrible disease that can have devastating effects on individuals and their families. Our hearts go out to those who have been affected by CTE,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group
