Desert Hot Springs Improves Pedestrian Safety Measures

Changes will be made to boost pedestrian safety on a dangerous stretch of road in Desert Hot Springs. The city will install 24 new street lights along Palm Drive between Two Bunch Palms Trail and Buena Vista Avenue. Additionally, all traffic signals along Palm Drive from Camino Aventura to Pierson Boulevard will be synchronized to increase safety.

A crosswalk and traffic light will also be added to the intersection of Palm Drive and Camino Aventura. This is significant, as it is the intersection where 17-year-old Pamela Carrillo was struck and killed while crossing the street this past March. Carrillo’s mother, Patricia Arellano, was instrumental in calling for improvements in the city’s pedestrian safety measures.

Desert Hot Springs city council unanimously approved the safety measures last week.

“We are glad the city is taking the issue of pedestrian safety seriously, and we sincerely hope the approved changes will help reduce the accidents along this road,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
