Driver Runs Stop Sign, Causing Fatal Accident

A driver who ran a stop sign caused a fatal crash in Hesperia Tuesday night. The crash happened at 10:37 p.m. near the intersection of Balsam Avenue and Live Oak Street. Authorities have identified 53-year-old Deborah Harr as the woman killed in the crash.

According to Hesperia sheriff’s officials, the driver of a Ford Escape was heading east on Live Oak Street when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Balsam Avenue. The Escape broadsided the driver’s side of a Toyota Matrix that was traveling north on Balsam.

The collision sent the Toyota into a telephone pole, electrical box and a chain link fence. The Ford rolled over and also crashed into the fence. Harr, the driver of the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ford driver, a 23-year-old Hesperia man, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the hospital.

The crash investigation is ongoing. It is unclear whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash, or whether the Ford driver will be cited. Anyone with further information on the accident can contact the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station at (760) 947-1500.
