On Monday morning, a woman accused of drunk driving crashed into a big rig while fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run. The big rig crash occurred at 12:37 a.m. at the intersection of Bear Valley and Mariposa roads.

According to sheriff’s officials, the driver of a Honda Accord was heading south on Mariposa Road when she failed to stop at the red light at the intersection. She then crashed into a big rig that was going east on Bear Valley Road. The Honda became lodged under the trailer and the driver, 36-year-old Alana Joerger, was trapped inside.

San Bernardino County firefighters extricated Joerger from the vehicle. She was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash investigation revealed that Joergen had been involved in a crash in a parking lot just prior to the big rig collision. She backed into another vehicle, then hit the driver of that vehicle when he exited his car to inspect the damage. She then fled the scene and collided with the semi-truck. The victim of the parking lot collision was hospitalized for injuries to his face. Sheriff’s officials say Joerger will face charges for hit-and-run causing injury and driving under the influence when she is released from the hospital.
