Is Drunk Driving to Blame for Fatal Victorville Crash?

Police arrested a drunk driving suspect who caused a fatal crash in Victorville in December. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, 34-year-old Florencio Arellanes Bernal was driving a black Toyota Highlander eastbound on Palmdale Road when he crashed into a Toyota Echo.

The crash happened around 10:21 p.m. on Friday, December 16. Police say the Echo slowed down to make a left turn onto Emerald Road when it was struck by the Highlander. Bernal failed to slow down to allow the turn, resulting in the collision. The Echo rolled several times, coming to rest on its roof in the eastbound lanes.

Authorities airlifted the Echo driver to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for unknown injuries. The passenger, a 47-year-old from Victorville, died at the scene.

Drunk Driving Suspect Faces Manslaughter Charge

Bernal was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He also faces three counts of driving under the influence causing great bodily injury.

“We offer our condolences to the family of the victims. Drunk driving is unacceptable, and far too often the result is grieving loved ones,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
