Fatal Crash on I-10 Caused by Faulty Tire

Tire tread separation is to blame for a fatal crash on I-10 near Cabazon Thursday morning. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver of an SUV heading east on I-10 lost control of the vehicle due to tire tread separation. The SUV went across four lanes of traffic before colliding with a tractor trailer that was parked on the shoulder. The crash happened around 6 a.m.

A 24-year-old man in the SUV’s passenger seat died at the scene. The driver was taken to Desert Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The tractor-trailer driver was not hurt in the crash. He was apparently stopped on the shoulder due to an electrical malfunction. Two lanes of eastbound I-10 were closed while CHP investigated the fatal crash.
