Fatal Off-Road Crash Linked to DUI

A Lynnwood man was killed in a fatal off-road crash at the El Mirage Dry Lakebed in the Victorville area on Sunday. Police say 34-year-old Armando Rivera was heading down the 20400 block of Mountain View Road at an unsafe speed when he drove through desert terrain and was ejected from his 2003 Honda 400EX quad vehicle.

Paramedics and California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials responded to the off-road crash crash just after 6 a.m., and Rivera was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:30 a.m. The Victorville CHP is still investigating the crash, but they suspect alcohol or drugs were a factor.

Off-roading in the California desert can be a dangerous activity. It is never wise to operate a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and it’s even more dangerous when off-roading in harsh desert terrain.

“This driver should not have been behind the wheel while intoxicated, let alone behind the wheel in an off-roading situation,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
