Fiat Chrysler Issues New Recall for Defect that can Cause Vehicle Fires

Fiat Chrysler is recalling 74,833 vehicles in the U.S. for a defect that can result in a vehicle fire. The company says that some alternators have an issue that can cause a short circuit, resulting in a stalled engine or vehicle fire.

Vehicles included in the recall are certain Dodge Ram 2500 pickups; 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs; and 2011-2014 model year Dodge Charger Pursuits. Vehicle owners will be alerted when the replacement parts are ready.

Last month, Fiat Chrysler recalled nearly 2 million vehicles for a separate issue. The September recall is due to defects in the vehicles’ airbags and seat belts, which have been linked to three deaths and five injuries. The defect in the computer system can prevent airbags and automatic seatbelt tighteners from deploying during a crash.

Vehicles affected by the recall are the 2010 Chrysler Sebring, 2011-2014 Chrysler 200, 2010-2012 Dodge Caliber, 2010-2014 Dodge Avenger and 2010-2014 Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass.

The automaker has said they are finalizing the repair process and will alert owners regarding the recall soon. If you are concerned your vehicle might be included in the Fiat Chrysler recall, you can look it up by VIN number at safercar.gov.

“As always, if you are alerted of a recall on your vehicle, be sure to schedule your repair promptly to be as safe as possible,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
