A Victorville man died in a fiery motorcycle crash early Thursday morning. The collision occurred just before 6 a.m. on southbound I-15, south of Oak Hills Road. Authorities have identified the motorcyclist as 29-year-old Jonathan Tran.
Motorcyclist Hit Car While Lane-Splitting
Police say Tran was splitting the No. 1 and No. 2 lane, going approximately 65 mph. The motorcycle then rear-ended a vehicle in the No. 1 lane at approximately 40 mph.
The impact then caused the motorcycle to veer right, in front of a big rig in the No. 3 lane. The big rig ran over the motorcycle and Tran was ejected. The motorcycle then caught fire and quickly became fully engulfed in flames. Emergency responders declared Tran dead at the scene.
The accident shut down three out of four lanes of southbound I-15. Traffic was backed up for miles, prompting a Sig Alert. All lanes were reopened again by 9:30 a.m. The fiery motorcycle crash remains under CHP investigation.
