A Hesperia man died in a scooter accident on Adelia Street last June. San Bernardino County Fire Department officials found 40-year-old Jesse Samuel Colin lying on street on the 16000 block of Adelia Street. He had apparently suffered major head and upper body trauma. Colin received advanced life support on the scene. Paramedics then transported him to Desert Valley Hospital. He was pronounced dead about an hour later.

A witness said Colin had apparently been riding a motorized skateboard scooter. According to a deputy from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, Colin died from blunt force trauma to the head he likely sustained from falling off the scooter. The Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the incident.

Helmets Can Reduce Injuries in a Scooter Crash

Police have not reported many details about the accident. However, it does not appear the victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported there were roughly 10,000 emergency room injuries related to motor scooters between July 2003 and June 2004. Only 4 out of 10 victims were wearing helmets.

“There’s a misconception that helmets aren’t necessary for these vehicles. But the reality is a fall from a power scooter can be very dangerous—even deadly,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
