Palm Desert Man Causes Drunken Hit-and-Run in La Quinta

Police have arrested a hit-and-run suspect responsible for a crash in La Quinta Saturday morning. Officials say 24-year-old Danny Rodriguez was driving a Pontiac G5 eastbound on Avenue 48 when he lost control and swerved into a pickup truck at around 6:55 a.m. Rodriguez fled the scene and headed south on Jefferson Street, where he crashed into a light pole.

Authorities found Rodriguez in the vehicle and determined he was driving under the influence. He was arrested for felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence of alcohol. It is not clear if the hit-and-run crash caused any injuries.

Driving under the influence is a selfish decision that costs thousands of lives every year. In 2014, nearly one-third of all traffic-related deaths were traced to drunk driving, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In the same year, 1.1 million drivers were arrested for DUI—but we know the problem is bigger than that, as drivers self-reported more than 121 million incidents of driving under the influence.

“We’ve been told time and time again that alcohol impairs judgment, which leads to incidents like this drunken hit-and-run. What will it take for people to stop getting behind the wheel when they’re intoxicated?” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
