Peaches Recalled Following Salmonella Outbreak
Peaches Recalled Following Salmonella Outbreak

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a recent fruit recall has expanded to include loose peaches and peach products. Also, the recall now includes the state of California. So far, there have been 78 cases of illness reported which can be directly traced back to the fruit. Of these cases, 23 of them resulted in hospitalizations.

The illness is largely due to the presence of salmonella, something the CDC is saying could result in an increasing number of cases in the short-term. Experts from the CDC have stated that there is typically a 2 to 4-week delay between the day a person becomes ill and, finally, when the illness is actually reported to authorities.

The tainted fruit has been sourced back to the California-base distributor Prima Wawona, who have completed shipments of potentially tainted fruit to more than 30 different states across the country. Following the announcement of the recall, major retailers such as Walmart, Target, Kroger and others have pulled the products from their shelves.

More information about this specific salmonella outbreak and product recall can be found here. As a general rule, experts are advising individuals not to eat peaches they may have if they are unsure where they have originated.
