Stolen Vehicle Crash Caused by Drunk Driver
Stolen Vehicle Crash Caused by Drunk Driver

Last year, police arrested a drunk driver for crashing a stolen vehicle at the intersection of Adams Street and Fred Waring Drive in La Quinta. George Huffman, Jr., 49, stole the vehicle from a Sprout’s parking lot while the owner was loading groceries. He then fled northbound on Adams Street before colliding with another vehicle, injuring two people.

The victims sustained major injuries in the collision and required hospitalization. Police say the suspect was under the influence of alcohol when he stole the vehicle and crashed it. Officers arrested Huffman for vehicle theft, driving under the influence of alcohol and causing injury to others.

How to Handle a Stolen Vehicle Incident

Having your car stolen can be a terrifying experience. Unfortunately, it happens every 44 seconds in the U.S. If you find yourself in this situation, here are some immediate steps to take:

  1. Call the police and file a report. The police should add your vehicle information to state and national records in order to keep the thief from selling or re-titling your vehicle.
  2. Contact your auto insurance company. Reporting the theft to your insurance company can protect you in the event your car is used to cause harm or damage.
  3. Ask people nearby if they saw anything happen to your car.
  4. If you have financing on your vehicle, contact the leasing company as soon as possible.

“This suspect’s decision not only to steal a vehicle, but also to drive while intoxicated, caused two innocent people unnecessary suffering,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
