Is Your Vehicle Part of New GM Recall?

More than 4 million vehicles might be affected by a GM recall for Takata airbags. This recall would be in addition to the 1.9 million vehicles the company said it would be recalling in May, and another 600,000 that were included in June.

The new recall would cost GM $550 million, adding to the already $320 million it is facing for the existing recall.

GM has said it does not believe its airbags pose a safety risk. The company says the Takata airbag inflators used in its vehicles are installed in such a way that minimizes exposure to moisture. Of the 44,000 airbag deployments that have occurred in GM vehicles with Takata inflators, there have been no reported cases of airbags rupturing.

However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is holding to its position that all frontal Takata airbag inflators that lack a drying agent should be recalled.

The GM recall process has not yet begun. The full list of vehicles affected by the recalls can be viewed at the GM recall website.

More than 100 million vehicles worldwide haven been identified as being affected by the defective Takata airbag inflators. Thirteen people have been killed by the exploding airbags and more than 100 injuries in the U.S. have been linked to the airbags.

“These airbags pose a significant risk to drivers. If your vehicle is included in any of these Takata recalls, make sure you get it repaired as soon as possible,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
