Woman and Son Killed in Aqueduct Crash
Woman and Son Killed in Aqueduct Crash

A mother and son died Thursday night in an aqueduct crash in Hesperia. Authorities say 31-year-old Christina Estrada of Hesperia was driving a red Volkswagen Beetle when it crashed through a fence and into the California Aqueduct. Rescue workers pulled Estrada from the water, but she died at the scene at 7:47 p.m.

Estrada’s 3-year-old son, Jeremiah Abbott, was also pulled from the water. Emergency responders rushed him to Desert Valley Hospital, where he died from his injuries at 10:32 p.m. A third child was ejected from the vehicle before it fell into the aqueduct. Emergency personnel transported him to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment. He is expected to survive.

Is 4th Victim of Aqueduct Crash Still Missing?

Officials are unsure whether anyone else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash. A fourth victim was originally reported, but that has not been confirmed. Police shut down Main Street from Escondido Avenue to Pyrite Avenue while they conducted the investigation. The Major Accident Investigation Team continues to investigate the aqueduct crash.

“Our hearts break for this family. We’re praying for the surviving child who is still in the hospital,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
