Arrest Made in Palm Springs Street Racing Crash Case

Police have arrested a driver who caused a street racing crash in Palm Springs earlier this year. Steven Howlett, 28, was arrested for racing another vehicle on Ramon Road, then running a red light and crashing into a Hyundai Elantra at the intersection of Ramon and Vella roads.

The street racing crash occurred around noon on June 4th, just south of Palm Springs International Airport. The driver of the Hyundai suffered fractures to his spine and internal bleeding.

Howlett admitted to racing another driver and told police he was going about 60 mph. However, witnesses say he might have been traveling as fast as 80 mph. The driver he was racing was not identified in court documents, but witnesses say the vehicle was a BMW.

Howlett has been charged with felony reckless driving causing injury, as well as willfully and unlawfully engaging in a speeding contest.

“Street racing is extremely dangerous and puts innocent lives in danger. This behavior cannot be tolerated on our roadways,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
