One person was killed in a motorcycle crash Friday night in Hesperia. The crash happened just before 7:30 p.m. on Caliente Road south of El Centro Road. Police say the motorcyclist was traveling north on Caliente Road on his red Harley Davidson when he veered off the roadway, continuing onto the dirt shoulder and eventually crashing.
Emergency responders arrived and the victim was flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for severe injuries. He passed away from his injuries shortly after. Police closed down Caliente Road between Ranchero and El Centro until 1:30 a.m. while they investigated and spoke to witnesses.
Police are still investigating the cause of the motorcycle crash. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motorcyclists are 26 times more likely to die in a crash than passenger car occupants. Technological advances have come a long way for protecting motorcyclists in a crash—but bikers need to invest in the life-saving gear like the Helite airbag vest, as these protective safety features do not come standard in motorcycles like they do in passenger vehicles.
“Motorcyclists need to take their safety seriously. Wearing protective gear is a major aspect of motorcycle safety, along with following the speed limit, avoiding distractions and of course never riding while under the influence,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
