Fiery Collision in Gorman Kills 6 Family Members

Six people died and two suffered serious injuries in an early morning fiery collision last June. The fatal crash occurred on the 5 Freeway in Gorman just after 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28. Two mothers and four children died inside a minivan after a crash launched it off the freeway. The minivan then burst into flames.

Did Semi Crash Cause Fiery Collision?

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the vehicle was involved in a minor crash with a BMW. Some time after, a semitrailer struck the minivan, causing it to roll down the embankment. The two men in the vehicle—the fathers of both families—managed to escape. They attempted to rescue the others, but the fire quickly engulfed the vehicle. Both men sustained serious injuries. They were airlifted to the hospital.

The fiery collision happened just south of the Gorman School Road off-ramp on the southbound 5 Freeway. The drivers of both the semi and BMW were uninjured and remained at the scene. The children were ages 2,3,4 and 5. The fathers injured in the crash were identified as Aaron Hon Wing Ng of San Francisco and Wei Xiong Li of Daly City.
