A man was killed in an I-15 crash Tuesday morning while he was changing his tire. Police say the driver of a Toyota Prius was legally parked on the right shoulder south of Dale Evans Parkway changing a tire when he was struck and killed by a Dodge Dart.
The crash occurred around 6:12 a.m. Police say the Dart driver, 33-year-old Anthony Maracle of San Bernardino, was traveling south on I-15 when he veered into the right shoulder and struck the Prius driver. He struck the man and his parked vehicle, propelling the Prius into the roadway. The Prius driver has been identified as 40-year-old Jason Henry Hadley of Apple Valley.
Maracle was treated on the scene for minor injuries. One of his passengers, Francisco Contreras Stockton, was uninjured in the crash. A second passenger, 37-year-old Yolanda Perez, was airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital with moderate injuries.
All the southbound lanes of I-15 were closed from 6:30 a.m. to 7:10 a.m. while police waited for the helicopter. The No. 3 lane remained closed until 8:50 a.m. during the cleanup and investigation. The fatal I-15 crash remains under investigation.
“Freeway shoulders are dedicated areas for pulling over to address vehicle problems. Drivers should always assume someone could be up ahead and never enter the shoulder unless it is to pull over for an emergency,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
