On Friday, January 24th, noted Chicago-based meat packing company Amity Packing Company issued a recall of over 2,000 pounds of ground beef. According to details included in the recall notice, the alarm was first raised when consumers discovered layers of “thin, pliable plastic” inside of their raw ground beef. As could be expected, the risks posed by this discovery warranted immediate recall actions.
The meat in question was first packaged on January 6th, 2020. Although no one has reported being directly affected by the plastic, experts have advised consumers to consult a medical professional at any point if needed.

For those hoping to identify the product in question, the packaged meat had a labeled “USE / FREEZE BY” date of January 31, 2020. The establishment number “EST 6916 is also printed on the right side of the product packaging.
To date, only two complaints have been filed regarding this particular situation. However, individuals who do discover plastic in these products should notify Pre Brands LLC immediately by calling 1-844-773-3663.
