On Tuesday, the Palm Springs city council issued an official “Shelter-in-place” advisory which effectively shuts down all non-essential businesses in the community. This decisive action is part of an ongoing series of efforts to slow and effectively eliminate the spread of coronavirus in the region.
According to the documentation provided by the city council, the shelter-in-place order will be in effect from March 18th at 7 a.m until April 2nd. Obviously, many individuals worry that decisions such as these will have a catastrophic economic impact on the community. Geoff Kors, the mayor of Palm Springs, has responded by saying that the shutdown is “clearly what is needed” to help the community.

Moving Forward in Troubling Times
The Palm Springs city council has stated that they will continue to assess the situation and will determine if an extension on this mandate is needed closer to its stated end date. For now, the residents of Palm Spring are advised to stay indoors as much as possible and practice CDC-recommended safety guidelines.
