Woman Injured in Hit-and-Run Involving Apple Valley Official Sues Town

The woman who was injured in a crash with an Apple Valley official earlier this year has filed a lawsuit against the town. Lola Espinoza is seeking $2 million in damages for injuries she suffered in the July 20th crash with Apple Valley finance director Marc Puckett.

The night of the crash, Espinoza was driving south on I-15 when her Toyota Prius was rear-ended by Puckett’s Cadillac CTS. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) report states the Cadillac was going more than 60 mph when it collided with the Prius. Espinoza suffered injuries to her back and neck. She has stated that she has been unable to receive certain treatments for her injuries because Puckett’s insurance does not cover them.

The Apple Valley Town Council rejected Espinoza’s claim Tuesday. However, a civil lawsuit will likely follow.

Apple Valley Official Charged with Felony Hit-and-Run

Espinoza’s attorney filed the claim on Nov. 20, just two weeks before the San Bernardino County District Attorney charged Puckett with felony hit-and-run. Since Dec. 7, Puckett has been on paid administrative leave from his position.

“Ms. Espinoza was injured by a negligent city official and she deserves to be compensated for the damages she has suffered,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
