Will Pedestrian Safety Campaign Help Reduce Fatalities?
Will Pedestrian Safety Campaign Help Reduce Fatalities?

A volunteer organization is working to help increase pedestrian safety in Palm Springs. Volunteer Palm Springs has launched a public safety program called P.S. Cares, which will work to educate residents on pedestrian safety and provide tools to encourage safer habits.

In addition to pedestrian safety brochures and educational outreach, P.S. Cares is providing reflective vests for pedestrians and their dogs to increase their visibility at night, along with LED flashlights. The adult vests can be purchased for $25, dog vests are $15 and flashlights cost $5. The organization says that for every two vests they sell, they can provide one for free to someone in need. P.S. Cares will also be raising funds throughout the year to help provide vests for senior citizens, transients and others at risk of being injured in pedestrian accidents.

Pedestrian Safety Efforts Needed After Record Year for Fatalities

There were 45 pedestrian crashes in Palm Springs in 2016, and six of those were fatal. Two bicyclists also died in crashes last year.
